Oyón, Álava, Spain
Bodegas y Viñedos Zuazo Gastón is a family winery in the village of Oyón in Rioja Alavesa. Current manager Prudencio Zuazo Gastón’s family have been winegrowers in the region since 1850, and involved with local co-operatives since 1947 – and in 2001 he founded Zuazo Gaston, in order to make wine solely from the family estate.
The vineyards cover 100 hectares of calcareous clay soil, where they grow Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo, Graciano and Viura grapes. South-east facing and located at about 450 metres above sea level, the vineyards benefit from long days of sun. Vines vary in age from 10 to 60 years old. All harvesting is done by hand and the winery uses state-of-the-art facilities to produce high quality wines.
The next generation of the family is now also developing new wines, with the light and summery Generación Siete range.
